OEM Welcomes Eighth-Grade Aspiring Engineers

OEM played host to 32 eighth graders Wednesday participating in UW-River Falls Camp Badger Exploring Engineering™ program.  The students toured OEM’s Woodville facility, where they met with OEM manufacturing engineers who shared information about manufacturing, mechanical design, quality, and production management.  The engineers also led tours on the manufacturing floor where students observed advanced heavy-metal fabrication, precision machining, welding, finishing, and assembly processes.

Camp Badger is a one-week residence program to introduce teenagers to the multi-faceted engineering to stimulate their interest in math and science and encourage them to consider careers in science and technology. It is offered in collaboration with the UW-Madison College of Engineering.  The tour of OEM was one of several planned for the campers, including other manufacturing facilities and the St. Croix River Crossing construction project.

OEM Team Members leading the tour were Plant Managers Christian Gausman and Scott Exner, Manufacturing Engineer Mike Holm, and Manager of Staffing and Workforce Development Kelly Sheppard.
